Beating Depression

Your later days can be greater than your depressed days.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, approximately one in eleven Australians is struggling with depression. Interestingly, there are more women than men that are struggling with this condition. One of these brave women is Rebecca, a young lady who has been struggling with depression and impulses of self-harm since she was as young as eight years old.

Rebecca attributes her depression to environmental factors like neglect and abuse at home. Her condition has been persistent throughout her teenage and adult life, and that has attributed to several attempts to end her life.

One of the major things that have prevented Rebecca from seeking help is the lack of support from loved ones. Her mother going as far as denying that she has any problem. This is a common problem among people struggling with mental health issues. However, there has been a semblance of relief in Rebecca’s life. Since she was diagnosed and started treatment for her depression, she has seen significant progress.

Although Rebecca still has some bad days, she is determined not to let depression beat her. The truth is, Rebecca’s is only one of the many stories of brave people beating depression. She hopes that like her, many more people are brave enough to share their stories so that others out there can know that they are not alone.
